I've always wanted "a statement piece"... you've heard that expresssion, right?
They toss that phrase around on the DIY Home Decorating shows all the time... like a really cool chair, or lamp, or big armoire... well, I've never had one. So when the opportunity came to redo an area behind my computer desk in my home office, I thought, "I'll get some really cool lamps.. those will be my statement pieces!". I wanted Coral or Blue or something REALLY Zippy! well... guess I'm out of touch with what's cool because after going to SEVERAL stores, I didn't find ONE thing that could really be considered a statement piece and everything was neutral colors!!! .. geesh.
SO.. what did I end up with? THE STORY OF MY LIFE.. a "safe" design.. "safe color", "safe design", nothing fancy.. but that's ok.. I will just have to jazz up the REST of my new little area!
Stampin' Up! Celebration Basics Banner Kit to the rescue!
I used the Celebrations Basics Banner Kit and the Bermuda Bay and Calypso Coral Celebration Add-On kits. You'll find all of these supplies on pg 30 of the Stampin' Up! Occasions catalog and ordering info at the bottom of this post.
The banner in the kit says "CELEBRATE" but I just used part of the supplies and spelled CREATE.
<< So this is the lamp I ended up getting... not exactly the "statement piece" I would have liked.. but, they are pretty (I got a pair)... I got the bases at Lowes (thanks to Lisa for helping me pick them out) and I found these shades at Target! All 4 pieces were under $150 (for the 2 lamps) including the light bulbs :)
The shades have really pretty very dark brown stitching on the linen shade.. I really like them.
The bases are very dark brown - almost black. Dark enough that if I want to do black accents on my desk it will look fine.
What do you think about my DIY charging station? I repurposed (or is that Upcycled?) a letter tray, and covered a piece of cardboard with some left over fabric and batting, attached binder clips to the back of the tray and it holds the charging cords for my phone, my tablet and my camera battery charger! yay!
Now for a quick tutorial on making the flowers for the CREATE Banner:
I used the printed papers from the Calypso Coral and Bermuda Bay Celebration Add-On kits and die cut them with flowers from the Secret Garden framelit package, sponged them with Calypso Coral ink, stamped them with the Dahlia stamp, cupped them in my hand, then added them to the banner!
I used Snail adhesive and Stampin' Dimensionals for everything except hot glue on the flowers.
So what's YOUR statement piece?
And I'm just warning you .. if you say it's a Red Chair.. I just might come move in with you! :)

Love those lamp shades!!! Nothing wrong with dark lamp bases...you may have grown tired of the flashy colors and not been able to change/add other as easily. Also like your charging station, very pretty....and you have your coral and blue colors!

You always have such great ideas and they don't cost a months check! I love the charging station, I have a mess of cords on my counter, now that will change. Your lamps are perfect as well as the banner. Have a nice day!!
