Craft Room Storage Tip for Accessories & Embellishments Video

Click for Stampin' UP! Specials // Click for Patty's Special << ends tomorrow!

I have a fun tip that I hope will give you ideas for storing and organizing your crafting embellishments and accessories!

I recently brought all of the new Stampin' Up! embellishments and accessories to a demonstrator meeting for the display table, and rather than just put the packages on the table, I put all the darling products in sweet little white bowls from the Daiso Japan store!  They were only $1.50 each and made everything look so cute!

Craft room organization tip for accessories and embellishments - video tutorial with Patty Bennett from www.pattystamps.com

Watch the video below!

Please enjoy this quick 5 minute video with a fun tip for organizing (and hopefully USING) your crafting embellishments and accessories!

If you are viewing this in an email, please CLICK HERE to see the video on my blog.

We had lots of display tables at the meeting.. here are a couple photos of the tables as they filled up with products and projects;

Craft room organization tip for accessories and embellishments - video tutorial with Patty Bennett from www.pattystamps.com

When I came home from this demonstrator meeting, I decided to leave all of the products in the cute bowls, gather them all into a tray (from the Container Store) and keep them at my stamping desk!!

  1. I thought this should help keep them organized
  2. I hope it will encourage me to grab them and USE THEM!
  3. I can see at a glance what is running low

One tip I shared in the video above was to go ahead and take all of the wood embellishment pieces out of the wood sheets.. this way I KNOW I will grab them and use them.. and in fact I already have!

Stampin' UP! Paper Snip Scissor Sharpener Tip

I have quite a collection of Stampin' Up! Paper Snips and (now retired) Craft/Ribbon Scissors.  And they ALL needed sharpening.  We found this "Work Sharp" brand Knife & Tool sharpener and it came highly recommended, so we bought one.  It is great!!  You don't need the special edition one, but that's what they had so we got it.  I'm thankful for my handyman hubby who took the time to sharpen all my scissors for me!!

Scissor Sharpening tip: Work Sharp knife sharpener is fabulous for my Stampin' Up! paper snips!

You may be wondering why I have so many pairs of paper snips and craft scissors ... at classes or other events I like to have a tool caddy with all the stamping and crafting essential tools, like Paper Snips, bone folders, paper piercer, Snail, Fast Fuse and Multipurpose Glue.  If you need any of these handy crafting supplies, you'll find product photos at the bottom of this blog post, linked to my online store.  Just click any photo to shop now!

I really wish Stampin' Up! still offered the Craft & Rubber Scissors as well as the Craft Scissors - perfect for cutting ribbon.. but they are retired now.  I still love mine!

Work Sharp brand sharpeners are available at Cabela's, on Amazon or at some hardware stores.

Scissor Sharpening tip: Work Sharp knife sharpener is fabulous for my Stampin' Up! paper snips!

Gotta love my super handy hubby.. and love my super sharp scissors!!! :)

Organize your Ink Refills with Enamel Shapes!

Craft Room Organization Tip!

Organize your Stampin' UP! ink refills (re-inkers) by putting a Stampin' Up! Enamel Shape on the lid!

I organize mine in color families, and then place the Enamel Shape on the lid. This system makes it So easy to find the right color when I need to re-ink my pad!  I saw this idea online and I cannot fine the originator of this idea.. but if it was you, thank you and please comment so I can give you credit!

Organize your craft room! Place Enamel Shapes on your Stampin' Up! In Refills to easily identify them!

I am going to try to do a better job in the coming year to remind you to always buy the ink refill when you buy the ink pad.  You will always have it on hand, and we all know that a freshly inked pad produces a much better stamped image, too!

I store mine in a 4 section drawer divider from the Container Store in my Elfa Cart drawer:

My new 12x12 Paper Storage

I recently made some updates to my Stampin' Up! 12x12 Designer Series Paper storage in my stamp loft.  I learned about these great Storage Studio plastic sleeves from my friend Cindee, and several of you commented on them in my Holiday Catalog Sneak Peek video (see it here).

As promised, here is the info and update on how well these "Storage Studio" Paper Files work in my Stamp-n-Storage Paper Holders!  I replaced the old 12x12 holders I had with the Stamp-n-Storage paper holders to match my 8-1/2 x 11 holders, and I'm so happy with my paper wall of happiness!

My New Stamp-n-Storage Ink Pad Holders!

I'm so excited to share my newly organized Stampin' UP! ink pad storage system with you, featuring the Stamp-n-Storage ink pad holders!

Stamp-n-Storage ink pad holders for my Stampin' Up! Ink Pads, Patty Bennett's stampin loft

For about 15 years I've used a similar, custom built, ink pad holder but it was a little bulkier and I needed 2 of them stacked to store all my ink pads.  I'm so happy that now I can have all my pads just right out in front of me the way I like them!

Watch my video below for info on the great ink pad holders available at Stamp-n-Storage.

If you are unable to view the video, click here to see it on my YouTube Channel.

Ink pad storage make over featuring Stamp-n-Storage ink pad holders for my Stampin' Up! Ink Pads, Patty Bennett's stampin loft

I love how streamlined these holders are, and that all my Stampin' UP! ink pads are at my fingertips!!   You can paint or stain these.. so far I've opted to keep all of my Stamp-n-Storage products natural.  Maybe someday I'll change that but I like the natural wood look for now.  Thank you so much Stamp-n-Storage for these fabulous ink pad organizers!!  It is true that you are more creative and more productive when you are organized!!

Stamp-n-Storage ink pad holders for my Stampin' Up! Ink Pads, Patty Bennett's stampin loft

As mentioned in the video above, I have two of the "24" holders and one of the "30" holders all lined up side by side so that I can have my 4 Stampin' UP! color families displayed horizontally in front of me.  This is what works for me.  Many people prefer the vertical orientation, but do what works for you and your space!  When you go to the Stamp-n-Storage website ink pad holder page (here), you'll find several options as shown below:

Stamp-n-Storage ink pad holder options. So many to select from to fit your crafting space!

When you click the Standard Ink Pad Holders option (Circled above) you'll find the dimensions below.. you can select from any of these sizes and shapes to store from 24 to 60 ink pads.  I've circled the 2 sizes that I have (shown in the video above).

Stamp-n-Storage ink pad holder options. So many to select from to fit your crafting space!

As you can see there are LOTS of options offered by Stamp-n-Storage for your ink pad storage, and this is what worked best for me.  Measure your space, count your ink pads, then find a solution that works well for you!

And because everyone should have fresh flowers at their crafting desk....

Patty's Stamp-n-Storage ink pad holders - no crafting space is complete without some fresh flowers from the garden!

Important and useful links:

Stampin' UP! also offers an ink pad storage solution called the Color Caddy (here).  As I mentioned in the video, we all have different preferences and space requirements, so select an option that works best for your space!

Organizing Tip for Stampin' Up! Accessories

Whether you have a large craft room, or just a tabletop or desk, or anything in between, I am guessing you love to have "the crafting essentials" right at your fingertips like I do!  I love to keep Stampin' Up! Accessories like pearls, rhinestones, candy dots, dimensionals, and more, right on my desk.

This is the storage solution that I have on my crafting desk for my most used Stampin' UP! Accessories!

Organizing tip for your craft room: how to store Stampin' Up! Accessories to have them at your fingertips on your crafting table! by Patty Bennett

The container is a Linus brand 3-section divided cabinet drawer organizer from The Container Store #10048913, (see photo below).  The dividers are Staples brand ultra durable poly file folders.  I used them for my thinlit die storage dividers (here) and also for 3 of these accessory containers and I still have tons left from the package.

Organizing Supplies from the Container Store and Staples for Patty's Stampin' UP! accessory organizer

I cut the dividers into 4" strips then into varying heights so that some divider tabs were shorter in front and others were taller in back (with the taller accessory packages).

Both in my Accessory organizer above and my thinlit die storage below, I used my Brother P-touch labeler.  I got it at Sam's Club. .. don't know how I ever lived without it!

See the product photos at the bottom of this post for the items I am keeping in my Accessory Organizer.  The nice thing about these poly/plastic file folder dividers is that the labels will just peel right off if something retires and I need to make a new label for new products!

Tip for organizing your Stampin' Up! accessories - keep them right at your fingertips on your crafting desk! by Patty Bennett. Poly File folders from Staples, cut into dividers.

These are the same poly file folders I used to made dividers for my Stamp-n-Storage thinlit die storage (see the full blog post HERE)

Order your fabulous Project Life Card Organizer at Stamp-n-Storage here!

I am so excited that this area is done and that I'm USING it and have completed 1 year of a Project Life album already!!

I'm working "in the past" and catching up with photos from the early 2000's.. I have about 10 -15  years of photos from our married life that need to be preserved, so I just finished up 2001 last week!  The memories are so fun to look back on when Jason was only 10 and in 5th grade!!

I've also got all those photos from the late 1800's to about 1980 from the video above, to be archived and preserved, too!

Several of you have asked me to share some sample pages from my albums.. so I am sharing a few today..

Patty's Project Life by Stampin' Up! pages with tips. Preserve your family photo memories with Project Life. #plxsu

Watch for the tips I am sharing on these pages.. it's fun to mix up your pocket pages and use a 12x12 pocket page for larger memorabilia, or crop your photos and mount them to a 4x6 Project Life card.

I have also found that I take about 1/2 of my photos vertical and half horizontal, so, I need to mix up my pocket pages from the Variety Pack 1 (#135294 - here) in my layouts.

It's great to include admission tickets and postcards in your Project Life pages, too!

Craft Room Organization Shopping Tips

Container-store-carts-happiest-place-on-earth

One of the most delightful places on earth is

The Container Store!

My crafty friends and I LOVE to shop there.. it's an all day "field trip" for grown ups! :)

I am always on the hunt for the best way to organize everything in my craft room, and after several years of shopping at the Container Store, I have some shopping tips and suggestions for making your trip fun, exciting and successful!

On a recent trip I was doing a really horrible job at trying to take a selfie, and one of the workers graciously asked if she could take our photo for us.. I'm sure she was tired of watching me struggle!! :)

Container-store-group-june-organizing-trip

So, my BEST TIPS when shopping at the Container Store, IKEA or any other wonderful organizational supply store...

1. TAKE STUFF WITH YOU!  Take a variety of embellishments, papers, tools, etc.

2. TRY THE PRODUCTS OUT in lots of different containers! See what works for you.. what style are you drawn to? How will it fit on your table or on your shelf!?

3.  LOOK AROUND / TAKE YOUR TIME: You might have to look around for a long time (yes, we've been known to spend 3 hours in there!) until you try it all out and find what you like best!

Here are a few of my Stampin' Up! supplies I take with me.. cardstock, embellishments, paper stacks, stamp set cases, and last time I also brought embossing folders and catalogs with me.  You never know what you are going to want to organize in the perfect container!

4. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.. this lazy susan turntable was in the kitchen section.. I think it will be perfect on my craft table!

Doesn't this just make your heart go pitter-patter?

Cindee first turned me on to this great idea.. she uses these little scoops from the kitchen section for embossing powder!!  Someone else suggested using it for glitter or sequins for shaker cards.. how fun!

One thing I like to do at my stamping desk is to have a stack of stamp sets that I need to use next... I found this box that fits the Stampin' Up! stamp set cases perfectly.. so this pretty box will be going on my desk!

A bonus.. it also fits 6x6 embossing folders (and the smaller embossing folders) so I got a 2nd box for that purpose!

And, just because you can't have a successful girl's day out without eating...

we stopped at Buckhorn Grill first..

I'd say this was a sign of success! (it's NOT all mine!)

There are true downfalls to having such a small crafting space... one of them is that there just isn't room for it all sometimes.. so.. I need to step away from the computer for a day and get this room under control.

I'll be back with a fun project for you soon, and in the mean time, if you want to see what my craft room is SUPPOSED to look like,

Organizing Your Greeting Stamps

Recently I shared a video of my Stamping Loft.. a craft room tour of my little space.

Click here if you missed the craft room tour video.

One of the things that solicited a lot of comments was my 3 tins of loose stamps...

Loft-redo-favorite-stamps-storage-craft-room-pattystamps-tip

In the photo above, you can see the 3 tins I have with loose stamps.  This is probably my favorite craft room organizing tip!  The stamps are mostly greeting stamps from various sets, and I keep them next to my stamping desk so that I can grab them quickly, use them, clean them and put them right back in the tin.  I don't like to have to think about which set a thank you or birthday or get well greeting might be in, so I just like to keep them handy like this.  Lazy? hmmm.. I would rather think of it as efficient :)

WOOD?   CLEAR?   or  PHOTOPOLYMER?

You'll notice though that most of them are Wood Mount.  Stampin' UP! offers 3 different types of stamp options, Wood Mount, Clear Mount and Photopolymer.  You can see all 3 types on pg 4 of the Current Annual Catalog.  I get asked often, "Which type of stamps do you prefer?".  My answer is all of them, actually.... I really love the wood mount stamps for my greetings, BECAUSE of the way I like to store them (above), but I also like greeting sets in photopolymer so I can stamp them just where I need to.   And YES, I've been known to buy a set in wood mount and Photopolymer... not often.. but I have done it.

I like the Clear Mount for the more reasonable price, and smaller storage requirements, and then I REALLY love the photopolymer just because I can see where I'm stamping the image AND they stick to the clear blocks like nobody's business!!  I love that!!   So.. I buy stamps in all 3 options... mostly photopolymer, 2nd wood, and 3rd choice is clear.  That's just my preference.. no right or wrong about it.. it's a personal choice for everyone.

After I scoured 3 stores looking for the perfect variety of small tins to hold my stamps in, I happened upon this one in Target one day.... LOL.. you be the judge.. it might be a tad bit too big for my loose stamps :)

So let me hear from you ... what is your favorite?  Wood, Clear or Photopolymer and why?  Leave me a comment below (on my blog) and let me know!

{Edited to Add at 10:30am:  Connie asked in a comment below, how I keep track of where those stamps go... one good thing is that I'm blessed with a really good memory and I usually can remember where they go, and if not, I look at the GREETING INDEX on pg 245/246/247 of the current Annual catalog and I can usually find which set they go in.  I don't actually put them back into their set until the set retires and I sell or donate it.  Hope that helps?}
