Convention, and swapped it with my fellow Control Freak friends!! Their cards were AMAZING! I'll be featuring them in an upcoming blog post!

WATCH THE VIDEO below to see how to create this beautiful background using water with your background stamp!

As I mentioned in the video, you don't have to use water on this Watercolor Wash background stamp.. in fact, it turns out beautiful without water, but I wanted to try it with a spritz of water and loved how it came out!

I love it when you can use a stamp in more than one way!

For more details about this card, see THIS BLOG POST.

When you watch my video in this post, you will see that I grabbed a spare plastic bag to help me in coloring the wooden element.. it was MUCH better than getting totally inky fingers!!

Folded Watermelon Wonder Card: 4-1/4" x 11", folded in 1/2

4" x 4-1/2" Piece of Whisper White to stamp the Dahlia on

4" x 1-1/4" piece of patterned paper from the Pretty Petals Paper Stack

Wedding Card for our Niece

Today is a special day... Mother's Day!  Happy Mother's Day to all of my "mom friends"!  I also realized it's 5-10-15 which is just a SUPER cool date!! I was guessing there might me lots of weddings going on today because of the cool date, So.. why not share a wedding card I recently made!?

As I mentioned in this previous blog post, our niece Amy just got married... and of course I had to create a handmade wedding card for her... I used the beautiful "For the New Two" stamp set from the Stampin' Up! Occasions catalog and Calypso Coral ink and embossing powder to make it really special!

For-the-two-new-wedding-card-stampin-up-pattystamps

I wish we could have handed this to Josh and Amy in person, but, unfortunately, the 3 of us ended up SO sick that Easter Weekend and had to miss the wedding, but we wish them all the best and send all our love!

Amy's Bridal Shower Card

Our niece, Amy, recently got married to a super guy named Josh.. and for her bridal shower, I sent her THESE THANK YOU NOTE BOXES made from empty Project Life boxes.  Below is the card I mailed with the boxes for her bridal shower.. I think you could also use this for a wedding card!

For-the-two-new-wedding-shower-card-stampin-up-pattystamps

The background is stamped with a limited time offering stamp called Something Lacy.. I'm really sad that it's only available until June 2nd!!!  You can see it in my online store here!  I stamped it in Crisp Cantaloupe ink on Whisper White paper then layered it onto a folded Crisp Cantaloupe folded card.  Crisp Cantaloupe is one of my all time favorite colors.. I'm sad it's retiring too!!

Below is the 411 on creating this card.. the sentiment is from the "For the New Two" stamp set which I'm happy to tell you will also be in the new Stampin' Up! catalog!! yay!!!

For-the-new-two-amy-bridal-shower-card-wedding-stampin-up-pattystamps
For-the-two-new-wedding-shower-card-stampin-up-pattystamps-2

I used 3 sweet little ribbon flowers on this card.. they were from the Artisan Embellishment kit that sold out quickly... I am learning that it's important to get Stampin' Up! products quickly after they are released because so many from the Occasions catalog sold out quite quickly this year!

Pirate Map Birthday Card

Did you see the cute pencil toppers I made with this Hey, Valentine stamp set?  Click to View them here if you missed them.  I wanted to use this cute Pirate stamp but without the Valentine sentiment, so I did not ink the Valentine greeting, and I stamped Happy Birthday instead! What little guy wouldn't want this cute Pirate Birthday card!?

This fun Hey, Valentine Stamp set available on page 8 of the 2015 Stampin' Up! Occasions catalog, or click here to order online in CLEAR or WOOD mount.

Colored with Blendabilities Markers

After stamping the pirate in Memento Black ink on Very Vanilla cardstock, I colored him with my Stampin' Up! Blendabilities markers.  I love how smooth they are.. oh my.. they are a breeze to color with!

If you have not used Blendabilities Markers yet, why not try a FREE pack with your $50 Stampin' Up! purchase during Sale a Bration!?  Select from the packages shown on page 20 of the Sale a Bration Catalog!

I had lots of fun combining the World Map background stamp and the Open Sea stamp set plus a couple pieces of the Typeset DSP for the background pieces.  I ripped and sponged all the edges and then used the Spiral Border punch to punch the edges of the pieces.  All stamping and sponging was done with Soft Suede ink.

Simple and Elegant Control Freaks Blog Tour

Freakwelcome2013

WELCOME to the August 2014

  Control Freak

  Blog Tour!!!

Our theme this month:

Stampin' Up! projects that are

SIMPLE & ELEGANT

Our tour this month showcases cards that are Simple yet Elegant, or "Flat and Fabulous".. perhaps 1 or 2 layer cards without lots of embellishing...  we hope you enjoy this tour!   You have probably reached me after visiting Heidi Baks fantabulous blog, and if not, be sure to travel backwards on the tour and visit her! :) This month I'm a Heidi Sandwich... I'm sandwiched between 2 amazing Heidi's!!! :)

Card #1: Corner Garden Stamp

My first card uses a new background stamp called Corner Garden in a very different way!  I had not thought about turning this stamp on its side but I like it!

If you are looking for it, it's on pg 175 in the current Stampin' UP! Catalog.

 Blendabilities-corner-garden-stampin-up-card-pattystamps

After stamping the background stamp on Whisper White in Calypso Coral (my current fave Stampin' Up! color), I stamped the stamp again in Black Memento ink onto Whisper White and colored in the largest flower with Calypso Coral Blendabilities markers and then cut it out with my nice sharp paper snips, added petals with the Beautiful Bunch set stamped in Old Olive on Old Olive cardstock and punched with the Fun Flower punch, then added that to the card. The Thanks a Bunch stamp is from the Occasions 4 You set, pg 8.

Simple, yet elegant... don't you think?

  Blendabilities-calypso-coral-corner-garden-flowers

You can see the Blendabilities colors I used for the flower.. the 3 Calypso Coral Blendabilities markers plus the Blush (skin tone) marker and the Color Lifter. (Yep, this card was for a swap.. in fact it was for a Control Freaks Swap!)

For tips on coloring with Blendabilities,

Card #2: Bloom with Hope Hostess Stamp

My second card features a hostess set called Bloom with Hope  colored with Blendabilities markers.

Blendabilities-bloom-with-hope-stripes-embossing-folder

I think the Stylish Stripes embossing folder background, white on white, really makes this card beautiful and elegant.  I also like the sponging effect around the edge of the tag... I used both Tangerine Tango and Daffodil Delight to sponge the edges.

Blendabilities-bloom-with-hope-stripes-embossing-folder-tag

After stamping the flower with Memento Black ink on Whisper White cardstock, I colored it with Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight markers with some brown in the center from the Skin Tone assortment.  I used my Scalloped Tag Topper punch to make this a pretty tag focal point.

Snapshot Stampin' Up! Camera Note Card

Hello Friends!! Don't you love the cute camera stamp called Snapshot!? You can see it on page 167 in the Stampin' Up! catalog.

Snapshot-vintage-camera-case<<< What I love is that this camera stamp reminds me of a camera my dad had when I was a young girl... I can picture the beautiful leather case that was always attached to the camera as well! :)  It looked something like this one to the left that I found on a google search.

For my card today, I started with one of the new Crumb Cake Stampin' Up! note cards on page 194, and I stamped the background with the World Map background stamp on page 38 in Crumb Cake ink.

Snapshot-world-map-typeset-note-card-stampin-up

I cut some banner pieces using the Typeset Designer Paper on page 184, and stamped hello from the Hi There set on page 18 with Soft Suede ink.

Snapshot-world-map-blendabilities-stampin-up

The Snapshot camera was stamped with the Memento Black ink pad on Whisper White cardstock and colored with the Smoky Slate Blendabilities markers as well as 3 of the markers from the Skin Tone set (you can find those supplies on pg 212). Then I cut it out and added it with Dimensionals to the project.

Snapshot-world-map-blendabilities-stampin-up-silver-pearl

I added a little piece of Basic Black 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon so that it would look a bit like a wrist strap.  It's just tucked behind the cut out camera.

Did you see the cute silver pearls that look like rivets or screws?  Just color your pearls with the Smoky Slate Blendabilities and voila... you have silver embellishmenst!! :)

Blessed Easter Tulips with Hardwood Background Fence card

Easter is coming soon... Many of us are enjoying God's wonders in our gardens, like tulips and other beautiful flowers.. SO, that gives me "an excuse" to blog more stamped flower creations! :)

Thank you for the amazing response to my Hardwood Background stamp fence card (here)!  When I showed it to my hubby he said, "How about a dog eared fence, have you tried that?"... well, I took the challenge!  Yep, guess what?! It's SUPER EASY with the Triangle Punch!!  check out my tutorial below for 2 easy steps to creating this fence, and see my VIDEO Tutorial here for more tips on using the Hardwood Backround Stamp from Stampin' Up!.

Blessed-easter-hardwood-fence-tulip-card-1

I used the Blessed Easter tulip stamp from the Occasions Stampin' Up! catalog (pg 20) and stamped it twice on Watercolor Paper, then used the technique shown below to "color" the flowers.  I cut them out and added them to my beautiful fence with Stampin' Dimensionals :)

Blessed-easter-hardwood-fence-tulip-card

How to Color the Tulips:

Use the Staz On Black ink pad and Watercolor paper, then follow the instructions below for "coloring" the tulips by stamping Real Red and Crushed Curry ink using the "brushstroke" stamp from the Happy Watercolor set.

Blessed-easter-how-to-color-tulips Hardwood-stamp-dog-eared-tutorial
I stamped the Hardwood Background Stamp in Early Espresso ink onto Soft Suede cardstock, then applied Cajun Craze and Soft Suede ink with my Aqua Painter to give the fence more realistic texture and coloring.  And how about that EASY PEASY way to make the dog eared fence boards!!  :) :) whohoooo!

Last year the association in our neighborhood replaced the back fences for all of us... I noticed how irregular the colors are in the fence boards were so that's why I tried some different colors on this fence card.  The workers had to remove all of our vines and plants that had grown up all over the old fence for 20+ years.. so that's why my planter was so bare in this photo.. but we've replanted and have lots of pretties now! :)

Backyard-fence

Yep, the "ramp" is for our squirrel friends :)

Doesn't it just make your heart happy to look at this fun Stampin' Up! Sunflower Card?

Sunflower 1

I made this card after I saw a swap that one of my downline, Karen Abbot made...  after stamping the Sunflower image (item 123606, pg 149) and the friendship image (For Everything set, pg 70) I embellished the sunflower with a 1-3/4" Scallop Circle punch and a Brand New ULTRA MEGA FABULOUS SPICE CAKE DESIGNER BUTTON!!  Inside the center of the Soft Suede button, I punched a 1-1/4" circle from the Beau Chateau DSP package (polka dots) and snailed it to the button.. toooo cute???

Need a sampling of these new buttons? check this out!

I cut little slits in each "valley" of the scallop punched piece and sponged the edges with some Tangerine Tango ink.

Pastel sweet floral cards 2 Come on... grab your Stampin' Up! Stampin' Pastels... I know you must have them... if not.. rush to your nearest demonstrator to order them!!

Today I am featuring these 4 great Stampin' Up! products on my blog:

STAMPIN' PASTELS, item #120962, pg 202

Sweet Floral Background stamp, #122855, pg 151

Versamark pad, #102283, pg 203

Sponge Daubers, #102892, pg 203

Order your Stampin' Up! products online here!

For today's lovely cards, I used an old technique that I used to teach YEARS and YEARS ago, called Poppin' Pastels.  It's very simple.. .stamp your image in Versamark, apply pastels, rub and wow!!  So.. here we go..

1. Ink your image (Sweet Floral Background stamp) in Versamark ink and stamp on Whisper White cardstock:

Versamark

2. Grab your Stampin' Pastels and your Sponge Daubers

Pastels

3. using a Sponge Dauber, apply your lightest color first.. here I used Pink Pirouette first - POUNCE up and down all over all the flowers:

Pastel pink 1

4. next, add a darker pink, here I used Pretty in Pink - again, Pounce up and down but only where you want some darker color:

Pastel pink 2

Ya, I know.. looks messy... DON'T WORRY...

5.  add another darker pink to just little bits of the image, I used Rose Red:

Pastel pink 3

6. to blend, use the sponge dauber you used with the LIGHTEST COLOR and POUNCE up and down all over and they will all blend...

Pastel pink 4
7. Now you are ready to add some green to the stems.. follow the same method, starting with a light green and going to a darker green:

Pastel pink 5

8.  after adding a 2nd (and/or 3rd green shade) pounce to blend as above

Pastel pink 6

9. when all your color is applied, swirl lightly over the color with a cotton ball.. use one for the pinks and one for the greens - try not to swirl all over the white part of your paper... it will smear the color.
Pastel pink 7

10.. lastly... i decided I wanted to see what it looked like with a little yellow added in so I added some Daffodil Delight... .simply delightful.. don't you think????

Pastel pink 8
Here are 2 finished cards... you could do this with ANY color scheme...

Pastel sweet floral cards
Do ya like 'em???  I do!!  Now... get some pastels and have fun!

I stamped the Medallion stamp (item 115223, pg 133) with Basic Black Craft ink from Stampin' Up! and embossed it with clear powder.  I stamped it on paper from the GORGEOUS Nouveau Chic DSP package (item 115670, pg 160).

The background in the upper right is the new {fabulous} French Filigree background stamp (item 113742, pg 133) stamped in Basic Gray on Basic Gray C/S.  It's all mounted on a Basic Black folded card.

Here is a close up of the Jumbo Grommet and Build A Brad in the center of the medallion (more Grommet info HERE):
